This 90-minute webcast will mark the official launch of the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council. This new group aims to solve the biggest obstacle to sustainable institutional purchasing: a lack of standardization in how sustainable purchasing is defined, guided, measured and rewarded.
The SPLC — formed by a coalition of large purchasers, suppliers, standards bodies, government agencies, and nonprofits — plans to supply purchasers with the best available purchasing guidance, prioritizing high-impact areas of spending in both the public and private sector. The group aims to do for purchasing what LEED did for buildings: create a rating system for recognizing leadership in sustainable procurement.
The webcast will feature a panel of leaders from a variety of sectors talking about the organization, its initial projects and how to get involved. The webcast will be broadcast live from American University. Joel Makower will moderate and take questions from the audience.
